Katcheri

Katcheri refers to a traditional concert in Carnatic music (Indian classical music). Presented by Bhaskar’s Arts Academy, the programme will take students on a guided listening journey of a typical structure in a Carnatic music concert. Led by Artistic Director and Young Artist Award recipient Meenakshy Bhaskar, and featuring Cultural Medallion recipient Dr Ghanavenothan Retnam, Katcheri will introduce students to concepts such as Ragam (melody), Thalam (rhythm) and Manodharma (improvisation).

The programme will also showcase and celebrate Singapore’s identity as a multicultural nation through interesting segues into some catchy local favourites. In true embodiment of Singapore’s cultural melting pot, students can also witness Singaporean musicians of other ethnicities playing alongside traditional Indian musicians from Bhaskar’s Arts Academy.
