Gateway Theatre Opening Festival

The wait is over and the theatre is open!

Join us for a weekend of fun-filled activities as we kick off the opening with a bang. Take your pick from a wide range of programmes, from captivating theatre and dance performances, side-stitching comedy and old-school local films, to rocking live music in the sky garden. There’s imaginative art, photography light installations to check out too!

You can also try your hand at a new skill at one of the workshops running throughout the weekend. Learn how to bust a move, or tinker with different crafts for itchy fingers of all ages.

As It Fades draws upon dialects, folk songs and memories of our dancers and their parents to create a piece of work that speaks with an emotionally charged language; one that is lost, forgotten and buried deep within our bodies.

From farm to fashion, Kulit On The Go shares the art and heart of leather crafting. In a materialistic society that worships consumer goods, this leather crafter stays afloat in the business travelling and making orders according to his customers’ needs. Take a glimpse into this acquired taste familiar to us since the beginning of mankind.

Attack Of The Swordfish

When an ancient promise is broken, the furious swordfish attack a peaceful
village on the coast of Singapura. The King sends his soldiers to stop the attacks but they are defeated and swordfish become even more aggressive. His Majesty is at a loss as to what to do. Just then, a village boy, Din, steps up with a plan. Will the plan succeed? Wil the people and village be saved?

Cadence is a Singaporean alternative rock band with a line-up that merges experience with fresh eyes and ears to create an energetic rock outfit with a strong emphasis on melodies and concise arrangements. Their live performances are often energetic, sometimes intense, but always hopeful.

Singapore-based jazz, Soul Funk, Neo-Vintage band, The Steve McQueens, was formed in 2013. Though newly-formed, they have been invited to numerous International Jazz Festivals including the 2015 Southeast Asian Games closing ceremony. They are famous for their unique and soulful style where traditional jazz meets with contemporary music.

Eman Raharno Jeman aka Clogtwo! is a Singapore-based visual anarchist whose disciplines include being an accomplished graffiti artist and fine arts practitioner. Inspired by his daily observations of society, the narratives in his work explore elements of dark humour and social behavior.

Written in commemoration of Singapore’s 50th birthday, Long Long Time Ago follows the trials and tribulations of a family from 1965 to the 1430 early 1970s, running in parallel with Singapore’s early growth.
